augh

i'm turning 29 next week. i realize more and more how much i detest being a part of this world. southern california is the center of wealth and materialism. we don't realize how good we have it and we whine when our little perfect world is out of place. but really, things happen here just like everywhere else. we're just blind to them and to what is going on 3 miles from us. we try to keep ourselves separated from the bad, the evil.

we just like to keep ourselves safe and comfortable.

good times

i often just sit here and do nothing. it's really pointless, doing nothing that is. but sometimes we need to relax but my mind goes so many different directions. sometimes i open internet explorer to look for something and by the time it's loaded i've forgotten. well anyways.

m' vle apran nam de tout piti de maison de lumiere. i took this class that i never thought i'd use that my dad paid for. all of the sudden i wanted to learn 48 names in five weeks. well at the first night of the class they taught us 30 first and last names. so here's this weeks names:

renise
diene
junior
katrina
jocelyn
cherline
jeff
semi
chabine
evans

now it's one thing to memorize the names but then memorize the faces that go with them. geez that's hard. and 50 of them!

so let's see

diene

The way his name looks sort of reminds me of dinner. So I will picture him eating a cheeseburger. Diene eating a cheeseburger for dinner.

Evans

We can split his name up. E-vans. Maybe Evans wears some sort of internet shoe called E-Vans

Semi

If there were anyone I would want to drive a large truck, he would be my pick.

Jeff
He looks like he is thinking hard in this picture, maybe he is deciding something, like a ref(eree). Jeff the ref

Jocelyn

I think he likes to joke. so instead of Joce, Joke. Maybe he only likes to tell jokes to people named lynn. I can remember his name so i'm not going to try very hard

Junior

What happens when junior gets old, will we call him senior? For some reason this helps me remember him so don't knock it.

Renise

When she sees her sisters daughter she cheers. Ra-niece!

Katrina

Well Kat is obvious, ri is to laugh in creole and na is like in or at. So she's laughing hysterically at cats.

Cherline

She's leaning in this picture! I picture the singer cher leaning. Cher-lean!

Chabine

Sha! right! She has two knees. Bi-knee. Sha-bi-knee

full armor

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

that's a good one. that's what I like about other countries, especially some place like Haiti. It feels like you actually need some armor!

anyways. i don't know what else to say. Haiti is soon and I think we're going again in October. 31st. maybe. not for sure yet.

oh yeah. support for our trip has been coming in and we're pretty close to what we need to get so that's exciting. i'm not sure if anyone reads this, but I'll write anyways so I can look back and read it and remember what life was like on this May 12, 2008. God totally provided this weekend because we needed money and people at our joint birthday party were very generous as well as my boss was also very generous. Woo hoo.

sometimes i worry about safety. everyone here, including in the church, just wants to be safe. i don't know where we got this idea of safety from and that it's what God wants. He wants us to proclaim the gospel and people to be saved. Someone commented that the poorest places and the places that need Jesus the most are the most unsafe. So should we not go there? This topic is probably one that I mull over the most just because I need to keep reaffirming in my head that it's not about me or my safety. I don't know what I would do in a situation where my life was threatened, but I just have to trust that God will take care of the situation just like He has taken care of me all this time. anyways time for bed.

food

if there is an all day lunch special is it really a lunch special?

how is breakfast served all day? If you eat it at 3pm is it still breakfast? What makes it breakfast?

these are the things I wonder.

pre sleep post

today was a weird day. i felt so burdened for haiti. yesterday someone tried to kidnap the people who are running the orphanage we are going to visit this summer. things are so real right now to me. here in america it's easy to get blinded by all the stuff and commercialism. i don't even know how to describe the heavy burden on my heart today. I know this was an attack and m' ap priye pou ayiti and our trip. Our first trip meeting was Saturday and I have another meeting tomorrow about another trip coming up. i'm excited to serve, practice my creole and to show alicia what this obsession of mine is all about and to see the kids again.

i'm trying not to complain about the heat. a fan would be nice though.

Blogging from Word

I just found out I can blog from word.

I made this cool thing using yahoo pipes. It gets different blogs and puts them together into one. I've put an example up at http://www.maisondelumiere.org/news.htm

so tired

this weekend was so busy. i really want to get out of here, both of us do. i'm really sick of this comfortable life, part of me even wants to move the ghetto just to shake things up. do i feel called to do that? not really. although it would save money! but everybody here is so worried about being safe, we never get outside of our comfort zones. even people that i figure would have had their eyes open to the fact that Jesus or his apostles were not safe by our standards. sometimes i feel like moving churches but maybe the solution is to find a church in a different country where we have to pray to get by. americans don't need to pray. look at all we have, why would we pray? it's just another one of those annoying things that gets in the way of our life.

people in haiti eat dirt cookies, but we can go to eat whenever we want. today someone dropped donuts on the floor at church. part of me was thought ew. gross. haha. as one pastor said when we saw this... in haiti they're eating THE ground. next time i'm in haiti i want to get some dirt cookies. maybe not to eat, i don't know that I would do that.

meaningless

how does this life work? I'm sitting in my room analyzing it. I breathe in. I breathe out. How do I work? How am I able to think and converse with people? What the heck am I doing here? I'm so small. Here in this little city of Torrance. Everything is so much bigger than I. The world, the galaxy, the universe. But to me, most of the time I'm so big. Weird. Me defines what I do. Really, I don't get it. I don't get how people go without God. I don't get how I did it, how I still do it, or how I will continue to do it. How did everyone become so caught up in themselves and what we all can achieve? We're just sitting here on this earth, spinning around, going in little circles. And the earth is just going in one big circle. Meaningless. It almost makes me not want to do anything, but I can't do that. I don't know why, I don't know what drives me to go next. Really, honestly, truly. I just don't get it.

basically I come back to the question that plagues me: What is all this?!?!

BAD BATTERY

I went to autozone today and they tested my battery. You know what the test result said, on the nice little LCD screen? BAD BATTERY. I told the guy that's nice. It's so simple. I feel like everything in life is so complicated now. I'm a computer guy, but sometimes I'm like man, let's just use paper and ledgers again or whatever people used before computers. Stone tablets. Because hey, paper doesn't unexpectedly shut down. Paper doesn't give you weird error messages. Paper was good to us. One day you'll see, you'll all see. Paper fades though. That's one downside, but hey. You can see that coming.

children

i saw a video today on church about horrid living conditions for children in africa. they walk 8 miles every night to sleep on mats to escape possible abduction. sad. we constantly seek more. but by the standard of just having a car, to 92% of the world, we're rich. insane. i started to think, does america really care about children? and then I flashed back to last friday, when i was walking by a fire station in santa monica. there was a sign, you could drop your unwanted baby off there. you can abort your baby right after it's conceived, just take a pill! didn't know you're were pregnant? even months after it's conceived, just go to the clinic! or if you decide you don't want it then just drop it off and the government will take care of it. i prefer that option to dropping it in a trash can or aborting it, but these are human beings. not laundry. not trash. so i don't think america really cares about children. we say we do and when we see the pictures of these conditions we all well up with tears, but the truth is the actions of our country show something different.

oy vey

it's late. happy valentines day. I just don't feel like going to sleep. or shaving. i think i'll do that prior to going to bed though. I haven't really shaved my beard in two weeks, mostly been doing work from home right now. So what's the point? But tomorrow, well I figure 1. i'm meeting alicia for breakfast so it's nice to not look scraggly even though i don't think she cares. and 2. I picked up a new client through craigslist so i don't feel like looking like a hobo for them. Anyways. this whole indepedent contract thing is cool. i just have weird hours. I like it though. Hopefully I can get enough this month to keep me going for a little bit. Stuff always turns up. i'm really excited about the sharefest site. that's gonna be a fun one. so much to do. ok time to shave and stuff.

tired of applying for jobs

I got tired of applying for jobs. Really, it's just time consuming. Looking for a full time job IS a full time job. So I decided that I wasn't going to do it anymore. No, instead I took three hours and programmed a piece of software that will auto apply to Craigslist computer gigs and Dice jobs in Torrance with the keywords I want in them. It even checks if I've applied to the job before. The Craigslist portion is done, Dice is almost done. I should go to sleep now. Peace out.

It's weird

Life is. What is it. Sometimes I think about it and I get confused. Maybe it's why I can't be worried about being laid off. I'm 27. 27 years old. What is that? How am I here? If I'm lucky I'll live to be old. Or is that lucky? What is my first priority? To serve God. So getting laid off, working contract gigs. That can only help me do that. And if I'm flat broke, great. At least I won't be stuck behind a desk all day. I'll be doing what I'm made to do. Something bigger than this, I've felt this for awhile. I don't want to be a 9-5er or 9-6er. I want to serve God. That's the kind of work that's right for me. Even though it doesn't make the big bucks haha.

So anyways. My last post, you know. I want a job, I want to feel stable. I want to be a clone. I wanna suburban home. If I had contract work I wouldn't be tied down to this area all the time, I could go to Mexico, take trips. I don't necessarily have to be here to do all that. So yay for getting laid off! Check back in a couple of weeks to see how I feel about this then haha

the best part is i don't have to wear a tie everyday now

what are we searching for?

I got laid off

I really didn't see it coming. Yeah the company wasn't doing the greatest but it had been like that for awhile. I had just finished a big project and am getting ready to release it. So my boss calls me into his office. Normally these meetings are always good. My boss said I exceeded expectations and that I have great programming skills. But, basically the company's outlook was grim. The sales floor is practically empty. So I have two weeks left. So I need a job and if you know of anyone who is hiring let me know. I enjoy doing web development and photography, but am not limited to that. Here is my resume. I am skilled in:

Visual Basic.Net
Javascript

Make pizza, not war

This was on the CPK kids menu. Obviously meant to confuse the youth of today. Pizza means slice in Italian? So pizza by the slice doesn't make any sense. Or it means, that the things we think of as pizzas are actually just slices of a larger entity. I challenge you to order a slice of pizza by just saying I'd like a pepperoni pizza. In reality, they should just give you a big slice of pepperoni because that's what you just ordered. Weird.

SPAM

Do you ever think about Spam and while you still get it? Doesn't everybody hate it? Doesn't everbody delete it? Maybe not. Why would these people still be sending it unless someone was buying the things they were advertising? There must be some sort of market it for it, or we wouldn't keep getting it. I think I saw a new story on this once, some guy loved spam.

Here's a recent story: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/10/weekinreview/10basicsB.html?em&ex=1165899600&en=4441ea48dc7cffba&ei=5087%0A

90% of e-mail is SPAM. Cool! Google somehow has the best spam filter, I've only got one spam e-mail that has been able to get through it in the past 2 weeks.
